what about acoustic basses? where do they get discussed? Won't somebody think of the fat boys?!?
Now you're just being difficult :).

Serious answer - in the acoustic instruments section, because the options/problems/solutions/usage scenarios are much more like acoustic guitars than like electric basses. I doubt anyone runs an acoustic bass through an SVT, it's much more likely to be the PA.

What do you reckon MQ ... seems like a fair bit of discussion here.

    I'm easy like Sunday morning.

I don't really play Acoustic so I didn't spend much time on the acoustic pages on MR.
Seems like a few people think it's a good idea so we should probably do it.

Do you want to do the honours Tony?

  • It would be good as there will be a couple of acoustic builders on here anyway!

I am supposedly a qualified acoustic instrument maker of sorts..................................................

and Octatonic is on the way, I'm sure there are some others floating about too.

  • I play acoustic much more than electric and tried to frequent the old MR acoustic section.

    Nothing happened much there.

I reckon if we just put acoustic and electric stuff in this section then the people who don't play much of the other will be more inclined to stumble upon something they wouldn't otherwise have discovered.

I certainly feel that a fretted instruments that aren't guitars could well bring in more members.

  • That is actually a good point, could we have a section called Other Stringed Instruments?

then people can talk about violins and banjos etc etc

So long as it's not banjo players ... evolution has never really reached them ... and I hear they eat their own young :(

I love acoustic guitar porn. They are pretty much the apex of the luthiers art. I play my electrics more if I'm honest. But the sight of a top end acoustic makes me moister. They also seem to sort out the men from the boys. Without the compression of electrics your hands need to do all the talking. That helps you be a better player.

I like the banjo, but you go to any bluegrass session and you'll find about 5 or 6 competing with each other (and everyone else). They're like the folk equivalent of a long haired yoof with a pointy, floyd rose thingy.

    If I might ask...

[pedant] Can the 'Guitar' board now be called 'Electric Guitar' and the 'Acoustics' board be called 'Acoustic Instruments'? Otherwise there is still some confusion as to where acoustic guitar stuff goes, and no hint that the acoustic one is meant for more than just guitar. [/pedant]

    :)

See how difficult it all gets ...

"Acoustic Instruments" as a title is just a couple of characters too long.  It could be "Acoustic Guitars" but that would imply that all those other funny instruments (Ukes, etc) shouldn't be included.  Hence I went with "Acoustics" to try to be inclusive.

*IF* it gets enough use to justify keeping it as a separate section, then I'll probably change "Guitar" to something else.  I didn't want "Electrics" though, as that could imply Basses too.

See ... decisions, decisions, decisions.  This running-a-forum thing is a lot harder than people realise ;)

And anyways, you'll soon work out for yourselves what to discuss where ...
