I appreciate that you found it, but...I'd kinda hope that I know my daughter better than the BBC does

She's happier now. I've found that the best approach is to give her time to get things sorted in her head before even getting remotely annoyed or frustrated. I seem to remember that my parents had a much easier time with 3 boys (and a girl who took her behavioural cues from her older brothers).

28 years ago for me. An A (Physics), two Bs (Chemistry, Maths) and an E (Further Maths, which I never really wanted to take in the first place). Without that I might have got three As... on the other hand the E was nice as it made me feel less of an alien when comparing to less geeky friends who had no As or Bs at all.

But very scary, this means that stickyfiddle and holnrew were born just when I was leaving school

My daughter got hers today and is heading off to Newcastle UNI Also need to find the a new drummer for the band she has been filing the seat for the past couple of years... 3 old farts with a 17 year old girl drummer playing heavy(ish)rock is certainly a sight to behold and has been a real selling point for the band... It has been really funny watching punters faces as they realise who is playing the drums... Plus as a dad it has been great finding something I can do with my daughter even if it now ends in a month or so...

My daughter got some very decent AS Results today. She doesn't know yet, as she's currently helping on a wildlife research project in the Kruger National Park and won't be back home till Saturday next week.

I was at Uni something of a while ago - latter half of the 60's.

I didn't do A-Levels I did a B. Tech National Diploma in General Engineering, got a mixture of merits, distinctions and passes if I remeber correctly. It was a farse anyway as you could just keep re-doing stuff until you got all distinctions, I could'nt be bothered to though. Got me a job and then later down the line got me on the Degree that I finished last year and now the MA that I am about to finish in 2 weeks hopefully.

Picked up some city and guilds AutoCAD stuff along the way as well.

I did AS levels, not very well, (C Biology, E Chemistry, E Comms studies, failed maths), quit for a year and went back for an AVCE in business, for which I got BC (equiv to two A levels), but I failed two units due to other people being shit, could got at least one A otherwise.

Nevermind. I'm doing engineering with the OU at the moment, struggling at the whole self starting thing tbh.

I did well in my A Levels but really struggled through Uni and ended up drifting for ages. My current job is only through coincidence and knowing the right person at the right time.

I'm always envious of people with a set career in mind and a clear path, but moreover of people with the drive to see it through.

God, I suck...

Sounds familiar...

I did well in my A Levels but flunked Uni completely and ended up working as a lab technician for ages. My current job is only though not having any proper qualifications at anything and just falling back on what I can do to scrape by.

I'm not envious of people with a set career path, but I am of people with more drive than I have, sometimes.

heh - I can spell END with my A levels.

I also got 3 GCSEs first time around. (between 3 sets of resits I've got 18 GCSEs - most below C)

I dropped out of UNI in the second year. (which I got into by virtue of positive discrimination - they thought I had a girl's name)

and took 3 attempts to pass my driving test.

If anyone's kids are going through a bad patch cos of exam grades, please point them to this post: I'm self employed and have earned six figures for about a decade now; before that I lived by one rule - earn more £k per year than my age... it took 2 years after leaving uni to reach that goal.

Daughter just got an A star in Spanish. But since it is what we speak at home it was easy for her. GCSEs on the 22nd so still nervous. She's predicted 2as and the rest a stars. I got ABCC and one Level. And was dumb enough to suffer 4 years of chemistry at uni. Got so bored with it I spent all my time learning French and Spanish and ended up with a Desmond (2:2)

32 yrs ago for me-Biology, Geology and Geography and I thought I was going to be a geologist, well, more specifically, a palaeontologist but I discovered the guitar at 17 and swapped trilobites for stratocasters!!

I got ABC which I thought was nice. Better than ABB or ABD, obviously.
