  • The ones I've tried have been very uninspiring and 'dry' sounding...

Very tempted by that. The Fylde Octavius Bouzouki I have is a lovely instrument. Difficult to spend so much without trying it though.

IMO, they are like English Lowdens; work wonders in some peoples hands, completely indifferent in others.

I think they are nice guitars though.

Mate has a Goodfellow, which is a rewarding throaty joy to play, but I just coping with the narrows of a 45mm nut.

The Alchemist is only 42.5 at the nut, which rules it out for fingerstyle in my plates of sand(s).

Well I'm playing a 1966 gibson J50 at the moment which has a nut width of 39.5, so it can only be an improvement on that for fingerstayle!

played a few over the yrs, a wonderful little Ariel 12 string decades ago, and in the '90's when looking for a solo gigging guitar got sent a Fylde Oberon to try out late '80's model IIRC - the neck was way chunky for me which put me off buying it, found out later that some things changed from time to time.
It sounded real good for solo fingerpicking stuff.
u'd need to play it, check it over.
