First impressions of an Oberheim Matrix 1000

As you know, I coverted one of these for some time. Today was the first real chance I've had to play around with it since it arrived this week.

Wow. What a machine. It sounds simply incredible.

Not sure which synth is doing what here? Sounds properly retro though.

Has your EPROM been updated to 1.16? Seems it's much more efficient for doing real-time knob tweaks. I just saw that there's a demo on YT of the difference.

It's all the Oberheim. Nope, standard eprom as stands; weighing up purchasing the upgrade though.

Ignore the 1.16 reference. That was as far as gligli got. There's a guy called Bob who went further and has sort of become the standard for updated firmware: http://www.untergeek.de/howto/oberheim-matrix-1000/oberheim-matrix-1000-firmware-v1-20/#Order_Form

I was all set to join in the Matrix love, as a guy listed one for £200. I must have been among the first to email him, but it had gone!

Yeah I saw that too. Dropped the guy a message too... no reply as yet. Think it's more than I'd be happy to spend at this stage, but maybe further down the line.

Oh, and to answer an earlier question, mine is running on firmware 1.11

With firmware 1.11, I presume cut-off movement is very laggy in real-time? There were some other envelope bugs but I think they only show up if you get into editing or live tweaking. The real benefit of the later firmware is an added unison detune parameter.

In addition to that controller box above, there's one by Stereoping and another by some Argentinian guy - ObiMagix1000 or something similar. I guess a BCR2000 (under £100 used) could also be programmed to do it?

So I've read, yes. So far I have to say, the out the box sounds are great - haven't even attempted to tweak. I did however download the analog audio patches from that video as they sounded soooo good.
