  • No - but I have played the SC dread they have in.

One of the two or three best sounding dreads I've ever played.

  • Bought a Santa Cruz Tony Rice last Friday. I know it's the honeymoon period, but it's a lovely instrument and better than any Martin I have played

Just to serve a curve ball, have a look at this:

I sold my Santa Cruz to get an Atkin. I've never looked back.

Had one. Loved the tone, but the neck was too chunky for me

Just wondering how it sounded and about the neck profile. Please don't go to the trouble, it is still in my mind, but gone a little off the boil.

Interesting, would love to know more about these. Haven't read a whole lot, let alone played one or even seen one in the flesh. How's the neck profile? Thin, chunky, hard V, soft V, C or D?

Although some of Alister's guitars are in stock at various dealers in the UK, Europe and the USA, and he keeps a small number at his workshop, he mainly builds to order so within reason you can spec what neck profile you prefer. My Atkin has a neck which is a C shape, a little more chunky than my Esquire but a little less than my ES-335. To me it's really comfortable and it is quite similar to the neck of my previous Santa Cruz.

I'm not sure where/if you might see one in Ireland but if they interest you have a word with Alister. He's a nice guy.
