I just thought I would remind you about this excellent series of programs.

The first two on Notation and Equal Temperament explain so much to help anyone getting to grips with a bit of music theory, and why things are the way they are.

It really helps to put the jigsaw together if you gain a perspective of what the bigger picture looks like.
