  • I've done it when recording and needed a twelve string sound.

    If both parts are panned extreme left and right, it sounds amazing.

    I usually have a spare electric in Nashville tuning for laying guitars.
    A variation of it is to use a regular G- it can be difficult to keep the octave up G from breaking.

    Yes, that's exactly what I did.

    I wanted a 12 string sound, but I did the Nashville method as a cheap and cheerful stopgap/ experiment and really liked the results.

    The same Ovation is on tour at the mo- the Sax player (Joan- he's an amazng musician) uses it for a couple of songs.

  • I've found the same works with Vocals when I was producing an Album for my friends band. One of the sections of the song was sort of empty so I decided to experiment, I got the singer to record the vocals twice so they were slightly different and put the second one a few semitones up, then I panned the original to the right and the higher pitch to the left, it sounded really good.
