Superb playing?
@koss59 ;; Favourite players in that style?... hmmm thats a really tough question! I guess my style is a big mixture of all the different things that I'm into and that have influenced me over the years. I'm a huge music nerd and have some 250,000 albums in my collection spanning every genre and era you could think of. Stylistically, I try to learn something from everything I listen to but if I had to point to a few styles that I've really spent the time digging deep into the nuts and bolts of, the list would probably look something like this;
* gypsy jazz and traditional jazz
* western swing and roots country, country blues etc
* world music, (namely cuban, indian, south american and hawaiin)
* jump blues
* Blues ... and i mean proper old school, dirty blues
Some players I would recommend checking out from the gypsy world; Django Reinhardt, Fapy Lafertin, Oscar Aleman, Gonzalo Bergara, Adrien Moignard, Bireli Lagrene,
Western swing and country players; George Barnes, Jimmy Bryant, Jimmie Rivers, Chet Atkins, Bill Jennings, Buddy Emmons, Les Paul, Link Wray, Russ Barenberg, David Grier, Guthrie Trapp,
Trad Jazz; Johnny Smith.. the master of stretch chords! Wes Montgomery, Charlie Christian, Barney Kessel, Grant Green, Kenny Burrell, Jimmy Raney, Lenny Breau, Ted Greene (the "chord chemist"… just an incredible person to check out on Youtube… it’ll blow your mind!!)
World music; Antonio Forcione, Ballake Sissoko, Bob Brozman,
Blues guys; Son House, Charlie Patton, Big Bill Broonzy, R.L Burnside, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Blind Blake, Howlin’ Wolf, Ry Cooder, Tiny Grimes,
Modern players who I absolutely love; Marc Ribot, Julian Lage, Blake Mills, Bill Frisell, Jim Campilongo, Nels Cline, Johnny Greenwood, Junior Watson, Smokey Hormel, Mike Dowling, Tommy Emmanuel, George Harrison, Elliott Smith,
Well, I’ve waffled on for long enough and feel like I’m just scratching the surface in terms of music and players that I really dig! There’s just so much incredible music out there… I’m truly obsessed!
Oh, and I should mention that I'm also a professional guitar teacher and offer skype lessons if anyone's really interested in this stuff and how to learn it!
Cheers,
Alex

I met Guthrie Trapp in Nashville in October and he was a lovely bloke and got to watch him play from a few feet away.
That's cool man, I know how it is! I'm lucky enough to be playing in a couple of groups who cover a wide range of the roots, Americana, western swing and early jazz kinda stuff so I get my fill and then some!
Awesome you got to see Guthrie... he's such a tasteful player, and I love his taste in amps too!
