Something wierd going on with thin e string

Tuning up using the integrated tuner....as I have done hundreds of times without any problems. When the needle is bang in the middle of the little diamond then it's in tune. No problems with 5 of the strings.....but now when tuning the thin e string, the needle hits the diamond.....then as the note rings for a few seconds....the needle deflects to the right (sharp). It's doing me head in!!!

    New string?
If not ho long has it been on?
Time to put a new one on?

Does it sound in tune with the other strings?

If it's going sharp it's probably sticking in the nut as you tune up to the note - leaving the bit between the nut and the machinehead tighter than it should be - then slowly releasing.
