I'm selling gonna be selling some amps and guitars over the next few weeks as a change of job means that I just don't get enough time to play them any more. Offers in the region of £800. No trades thanks. I will not post / ship this due to size and weight, but may be prepared to meet up. I live close to J8 on the M1 and work in Maidenhead. Used to be on the old forum as GAS_man.

First up is a Matamp 1224 Mk2. A wonderful amp that can cover many styles of music and (crucially for me when I bought it) has power switching from 50 watts (clean) down to about 3 watts.

There's loads of reading material about these on t'internet if you want to know more.

The amp is in very good condition, no nicks or scrapes in the tolex and minor tarnishing on the plated corners. Preamp valves are JJ and it's currently running 4 x Svetlana winged C EL34s

Nice amp - Dave Green built and pre 2005/6 when the chassis changed. Could be earlier. Good price considering there's a set of svets in it!

@Lew - You may be right, I bought a C7 from new and regretted selling that so much that I bought the 1224. Currently I'm a Kemper convert, which suits my needs better for the occasions when I find some time to play. If it doesn't sell I may be forced to get shot of the Kemper (as they are more in vogue and easier to off-load at the moment).

Don't sell your Matamp!

I have some kind of GT1 ish type thing although its a bit random and has been rewired a bit, also built by Dave Green.

I visited the factory circa 2005 and had the pleasure of meeting the whole crew (of the time) including Mr Green.

@MtB I meant that the 1224 isn't the Matamp I want ;-) not tried a Kemper and don't suppose I will. In the words of The Dude "I still jerk off manually"

@jacklawtey - good question. I bought the amp 5 years ago from Strung Out guitars in Glasgow, and at that time the amp faceplate had the name Marty Arkless engraved on it.

Great amp, very versatile in terms of both it's clean to overdriven sounds and it's power outputs.

I have no association with the seller of this amp but I'd just like to say that I have just acquired a Matamp 1224 and it is absolutely stunning. Obviously its "horses for courses" but if you like a powerful tone (SRV style) that sings and growls - effortlessly sustaining notes, then you should check out this amp. In my view, the 1224 is right up there with the "Two Rocks" of this world.....the built in spring reverb is not up to much mind but that's not too much of an issue in my view. Go on, give it a go.

@exocet Let's just say Dave had some strange ideas when it came to reverb. It runs pre EQ so can get a bit muddy, although it does sound a bit like the old piggy back verb running in front of an amp.

Thought there was something strange going on - I do like a bit of spring reverb so I might look at filtering off some bottom end in the spring line drive circuit. In the scheme of things it's a pretty minor criticism of what is otherwise pretty damn close to sonic perfection.

That's what I tend to do. There's a coupling cap front board right hand side, drop the value there, it's probably a 1n but sometimes 4n7.
