Hi there,
It's time to move my lovely Cornell Romany on to a new home - with it's own matching 1x12 cabinet. It's a 2010 model with the 10" Jensen and 3-way power switching from 10W - 2W - 1/4W (or 1/10th - I'm not sure!). They are really great amps - built like a tank, all hand wired by Denis Cornell who is a top bloke and hugely respected. Think of it like a Fender Champ on steroids. Treble and bass controls are simple but effective, but the amp's party trick is the eq bypass switch which cuts out the tonestack altogether. This gives it a big volume boost, and a more raucous sound - it's surprising what a rock beast it can sound like. Also surprising is the volume... 10 handwired valve watts are pretty loud. As in rehearsal volume with a drummer and smaller gigs as long as you don't need pristine cleans. But this isn't a loud clean amp - crank it! The lower settings are really useful for recording or home. I have gigged this with a 4x12, and it sounded great...but far too much to lug around. I've had to bite the bullet and decide that in a garage style 2 piece I need a few more watts!
Condition is very good. A few minor signs of use on the covering, some tarnishing of the brass on the handle, some wear on the leather. A fairly recent 6L6, and I think I've got a spare to throw in. Insides are clean as a whistle.
The cab effectively gives you the sound of the larger Romany Plus without the reverb, and makes this amp much more useful. It looks and sounds great. It is actually a 2nd hand empty Romany Plus shell, which I converted myself into a combo. As such, you can see from above and behind that it used to be a combo. The input jack needs a bit of tightening and fettling, although it works 100%. However, I'm throwing it in for a nominal fee. It's currently got a WGS Reaper in it, but I'm swapping it out for a more expensive Jensen P12Q Vintage Alnico 12" which fits the tweed vibe better. Let me know if this is a deal breaker.
I'd rather sell together, for £500. I won't sell the cab separately, but if you just want the amp, we can do a deal. I'm in York, and don't really want to post, but will meet up, or deliver within 60 miles or so for a bit of petrol.
If you are interested, you can hear the amp & cab all over my record..https://thehoolivans.bandcamp.com/.
Is it as good as a Lazy J? I've never played one, so I don't know... but the build quality is right up there with the very best (and of course it's a quarter of the price!). Any questions, let me know. Here followeth the piccies...
