Having read the oil tutorial I'd love to see something similar regarding removing nitro finishes prior to oiling.

So if any of our resident strippers(!) have any advice etc I'd be very grateful.

The safest way is with acetone and a lot of rubbing with a rag. the thinners will melt it and it will rub right off

its the safest way for the guitar as the wood is pretty much unharmed, although it does remove the natural oils too but you are replacing most of those

also be careful or plastic binding and inlays as it can melt those. often best to finish off those sections with another method such as scraping or sanding

if that doesn't work then its not nitro

oh, and you may need green scourer/fine wire wool for some of the tougher areas

if in doubt, try it somewhere it doesnt matter first. in a cavity or under a bridge/scratchplate should let you know if its going to work
