    Start with a modal tuning eg D - DADGAD , C - CGCGCD, G - DGDGAD then adjust from there

    Around DADGAD -
                 DADF#AD - Open D
                DADFAD - D minor

    and so on.

    I've been using DADGAD and DGCGCD for many years, also open G sometimes

    The Pibroch one is interesting me, 

    I love the way each seems to open up a new world of harmonies

    Agree. Aside from my flamenco guitars, all my other guitars (6&12 acoustic & 6 string electric are in open tunings)
