When routing my first guitar body this year, I grabbed a lump of wood in the garage to test on. Some months later I have hit upon the idea of trying to make guitar necks (never considered it before as I thought it beyond me), and it has occurred to me that I can now only get one out of a decent lump of mahogany that I had as one end is full of route test marks. Doh .....
