Amp design evolution info?

Hey guys,

do you have any links to share about amps and their historic evolution and the contribution of companies/ designers?

Things like "guy X invented the cascading gain stages, company X introduced the master volume " etc?

Though not a builder myself, I find these things interesting.

It's good if you want schematics, pretty pictures of amps and a GT sales pitch... not so good otherwise. It was something of a 'bible' for me when I was starting amp work in the early pre-internet days, but I pretty soon found out that some of it was less than perfectly accurate.

Some of the schematics are still worth having but there's a vast amount of info on the net these days.

I met Aspen at a trade show once... he was somewhat larger than life in several ways, and I think quite stoned - either that or they're just like that in California

If you're going by patents, Randall Smith pretty much invented everything amp-related. I think he has a patent on the wheel, and fire, too.

Dave Hunter's 'Guitar Amp Handbook' is worth a read.
