SEO on your band website

We've got a site up for the band. Looks pretty good however I need it to get high in the search listings in Google etc. It's a wordpress site so what do you use to get it up there. Tips and tricks etc

    Things like having matching words in body copy and page titles, keywords and meta data all add up. If your site is responsive that helps these days.

    Yeah I realise I do need to do the word thang and will be re writing the copy to help with that. I was thinking of the wordpress plugins one uses to add keywords etc. I understand that there probably is no point to use meta tags now as Google say they don't use them for searching/listing etc

    When you say "wordpress site" do you mean it is hosted as "yourbandname.wordpress.com" - which I think is very difficult to do SEO-type work on effectively?

    Damn that's a paid plugin. I was hoping for a cheaper option as I'll never use a plugin for a site again. I know it sounds mean of me :(
