  • Honestly get the UK based Staytrem one, its way better and sounds better as well.

I have one and prefer it to the Mastery ones by a mile.

judging by the similarity of the photos, you could buy the same thing from Allparts for £30 - £40 less.

The AllParts one appears to have gaps between the saddles so they are not held tight against one another and can shift in use.

The Allparts one is nothing like the Staytrem unit.

    Chalk & Cheese.

I have both, so can compare.

The Staytrem comes in two radius types, Is milled out of steel and uses a plastic washer system to hold height and intonation adjustment screws in place, so no rattles or screws coming undone.

Nicely engineered and sounds great as well. Not fiddly and over engineered (Mastery)

+1 for the Staytrem bridge (actually thinking about it, the guitar I had with one now belongs to Jef!). And no, nothing like the Allprats one - like everything from Staytrem, beautifully engineered and looks original so you keep the classic looks but have massively uprated performance.
    Never Ever Bloody Anything Ever.

  • +1,000,000 for staytrem. I now have 3. Completely tranforms the instrument, no hassles, no noises, no bullshit. Not cheap, but considerably cheaper than Mastery. I've also head plenty of people with mastery complaining about rattles, and self adjusting height, so it also need superglue, just like stock.

The mastery looks like it belongs on a mountain bike.

    The staytrem says 'currently unavailable'.

Also 'unsuitable for tune'omatic bridge' which is me out.

I'd say convert the Tunomatic to a floating bridge or get a roller bridge instead.

I have two of the J Mascis JMs and both have Tunomatics as stock, it works fine on my guitars as is to be honest.

Ah, yes- if it's to replace the TOM on a Squier J mascis, you  need a roller. I used a Wilkinson - type one from CH Guitars. It was only about £12 and works a treat.

  • Thanks for the feedback - hadn't heard of the Staytrem before tbh. Sounds pretty good.

    Anyone selling a 7.25" radius one? ;)

So, I have a Jazzmaster, it has become my main guitar as it happens.

What does the Staytrem and/ or this bridge do?  (Is one needed for the other?)   And how could I tell what size I would need if I wanted to get one?

EDIT -- ah, I appear to have a Tune-O-Matic bridge, so no worries.  Still kind of curious though.

    Cheers

The idea is that the Mastery and Staytrem replace the traditional Jazzmaster/Jaguar bridge with it's screw-thread saddles and inherent rattles.
They are quite popular amongst the offset fraternity, although for the most part a good setup and a bit of time can usually sort out problems with the original Fender bridge.
