Acoustic Recommendation (adult beginner)

A friend is thinking he'd like to learn, so he's (well via his wife) asked me to recommend something.

No idea of budget (I've asked them that) so what's what in the entry level acoustic guitar world.

My first port of call was going to be Tanglewood.

Any recommendations?

I'd recommend Tanglewood too, although it really depends if he's willing to go used. Also if he wants a gigantic dread or something a bit more playable.

I would most definitely be buying this. Even comes with a hard case! Superb value.

    I'd third Tanglewood.

  • Tanglewood and Yamaha are the obvious at that price point.

My first acoustic was an Aria electro that I loved for the 200 it cost me. Nice pseudo-electric-feeling neck on it. I'm not sure how modern ones of those compare.

  • Thanks all. I've passed on the Tanglewood recommendation, and pointed them in the direction of a few local shops.

It'll be an Xmas pressie so new and shiny is required.

Sounds like somebody wouldn't know 'used' or 'pre-owned' if it bit them on the behind-hole!

Interested to hear what the final decision was but certainly second sigma for budget conscious.

To be honest I'm not sure what the final decision was. I pointed them in the direction of a couple of shops and the brands mentioned here. I know they had a day out just before Xmas and I know they got one but I don't know what!
