Right then, all you riffers ...

Here's the 4th Riff of the Month (RotM) Challenge, being run by @Antique_Guitars and @TTony.


The challenge is now open, and remains open for submissions until 24th November.


All you have to do is ...
  • Write a guitar riff.  You can include whatever else yo want in the mix, but the main focus must be on the riff.
  • Keep it to 30 seconds.  This is about riffs, not songs.
  • Challenge opens on the 1st of every month, and closes on the 24th of the month.
  • Voting opens on the 25th of the month, and closes on the last day of the month, when the winner will be announced.

Send your tracks to riffs@theFB.co.uk


The tracks will be uploaded to our SoundCloud account and saved in a playlist that will be linked below (just as soon as we've had some submissions!).

    Yeah man, he makes me feel like such an amateur! This is one I recorded the other day after a few  beers, hastily double tracked complete with minor mistimings.

    You should get the idea though :)

    Most of the stuff I'm working on for me at the moment is funk based, which doesn't tend to lend itself to a good riff as such. If I come up with one, there is always next time, but the other night I felt like having tons of digital distortion and that riff happened, so why not :)

    Cheers bro. It's quite shockingly double tracked, but I was a bit tipsy when I recorded it. And the pinch harmonics are... Meh. I might rerecord though because I really like it, and it's something that's easily workable into a song.

    Just heard yours, doooooooom. I don't have anything that can get that "wall of sound" type of thing sadly.

    I actually liked that PH...thought it was subtle and under-done. I'd like to hear that riff as part of a full song...would be pretty cool.

     

    As for the wall of sound...its just a good way of hiding bad technique! But to be honest, 30s is a very short time for me....that riff would take up about 5 minutes of a song! (acoustic part about 2 mins, and distorted about 3mins)

    I just had a play with my fuzz box, and I got it mega squishy and compressed but it's just too toppy for that sound.

    It does do a nice ripping velcro sound at the lead position though :)

    Honestly, @ThePrettyDamned, I wouldn't know where to start getting a sound like you've managed there - sounds huge, and if you'd had a few beers it doesn't show. Sounds great

    Cheers. It's soon going to be a song, although I'll confess the riff is a minor rip off of "one by one".

    It's not tight enough for me to be happy, but I liked the process by which it came about, and it's a riff I'm proud of. Possibly one of my favourite self riffs!

    I can't believe how completely professional your sound is. I get blown away each time I hear it.
