All the best UK indie/alt bands are from Scotland or Ireland*

What's Hot
*may not be true.

But going through my 'bands I really really love UK' collection (I have a separate one for US) the majority of them are from Scotland or Ireland.

found it a bit strange. If it was all celtic folk type music I'd get it but no.

I always thought Wales had a strong shout.

Manics of course, Phonics, Super Furrys, Feeder...
We have to be so very careful, what we believe in...

    JJ72

I would add to that list.

    I think you'll find that's;
    Super Furry's, Manics, Phonics, Feeder....

(I am joking - but I do think SFA are a criminally underrated band)

And even worse - a list of Scottish bands that isn't topped by Primal Scream?!?!?!??!? come on @strumjoughlamps...... few bands mange one seminal album - The Scream managed two in Screamadelica and Vanishing Point.

If this is a list of decent Scottish/Irish bands then The Delgados, Arab Strap deserve a mention.

And Alvvays even though they're Canadian. Might as well be Scottish.

Tbh I always struggled a bit with Arab Strap although I understand the appeal, but for me it was a 3 point affair. 1) I'd prefer to listen to Pavement, 2) I'd prefer to listen to Mogwai, 3) they were too experimental for my ears.

I've listened to Malcolm Middleton's solo stuff a lot more than the Stap. Still think Arab Strap merit a position on the Scottish/Irish bands hotlist. As do Frightened Rabbit.

Oh they definitely are criminally under-rated, no argument there.

The Manics are my favourite band, so nobody beats them for me.

What about wannabe Irish bands, like Dropkick Murphys?

    just kidding.  they’re lame.

Love the Cranberries, though.  And Gerry Cinnamon.

Ireland is not in the UK etc etc etc.

Even the best English indie bands - Oasis, The Smiths etc - are all of Irish parents.
