The best DAB radio channel in your opinions for---

What's Hot
Rock/Blues music. I am absolutely fed up of the BBC's choices.
Thanks in advance.

  • Planet Rock surely?

I don't listen much (more of a Radio X kinda guy) but they play a lot more "deep cuts" so when I do it's like "wow - never heard that forgotten Alice Cooper single from 1972... its pretty good!"
We have to be so very careful, what we believe in...

Good call. I'm was quite surprised just how good a fair chunk of their content is.

I rarely listen to DAB stations, podcasts can cover most of my niche wants in terms of music

They must have changed.  I gave up listening to Planet Rock because for any given band they only ever seemed to play the two or three most obvious "greatest hits".

They are still guilty of that to an extent, but they do play some lesser-known stuff as well and a lot of the 'new' music (well new to me) I've got into in the past few years was introduced to me via PR - Massive Wagons,  Brothers Osborne, Rival Sons, Gary Clark Jr etc.  It's my music station of choice.  I can't do any of the BBC's music output these days and R2 in particular has the most irritating, up-their-own-arse presenters out there.

Interesting.  All a bit too blues/classic rock for me (although I do realise that was the OP's question).  And in any case, my DAB radio refuses to find Planet Rock nowadays, even though it is one of these:

They're all crap, I just use spotify instead. Make a playlist of songs you like, and then when it gets to the end spotify just plays related songs and they don't usually miss the mark.

Can't stand radio anymore. The adverts (we buy any car - just f off) and sensationalist news media every hour that's always exactly the same every day - "a man has been arrested on suspicion of murder", what a surprise,  f off. DJ's are beyond annoying too, no need for them.

They probably don't make them any more, mine's at least 15 years old, but I know there was a later version, without the Planet Rock logo.

Thanks boys and girls, happily listening to planet rock this afternoon, heard some tracks I had almost forgotten about. Pity about the adds, just about copeing with them. Still get the news bulletins though. I will try absolute rock tomorrow.
    Thanks again.

Strange, I can't see the image, but hovering the mouse pointer over the link tells me it is a Marshall branded Pure Evoke 1 XT.
Very cool, although I always missed having the FM bands.

  • My DAB gathers dust. I did have one in my old van as well  but a) MrsTheWeary was usually with me so that meant Radio 2 only and b) DAB essentially useless in France which is where it was largely driven.

Planet Rock was on FM in the Midlands years ago and it was painfully repetitive although there would be evening shows specialising in prog or blues or whatever. Looking at the list of national DAB stations in the UK it's the only one remaining that is rock.
I’ll handle this Violet, you take your three hour break.

I will say the quality of the music does compensate for the adds. Someone has to pay for the station to run.

Does that DAB have a Planet Rock button that goes straight to their station?

It doesn't.  Originally, I think, it was automatically tuned to Planet Rock when you first switched it on, but now I can't find Planet Rock any more.  It stays on 5 Live.

Well, all music channels.... too much shite I don't like.  All commercial channels.... adverts.  Radio 4.... too highbrow and/or boring.

Which pretty much only leaves 5 Live.  And I'm out at work when Nicky Campbell and Nihal Arthanayake are on, so there's really only Stephen Nolan to be avoided.
