Box between AMP out and speaker to give a line out

Now I'm new to this so bear with me, I want a sort of DI box that sits between my amps speaker out and the speaker itself that will give me a line out to my USB interface. Sort of a DI box but I don't think that is it. From my poor (very poor I think) description does anyone know whats its called? My attenuator had a line out and did this very job but I've stopped using it so need another simpler version.

I'm pretty sure DI or line out box is right. Pretty sure this is what the Hughes & Kettner Redbox is/was except you prob don't want an analogue speaker sim like it has.

ah yes I'd seen the RedBox but wasnt sure if its what I was needing, I shall check that out, if the speaker sim can be disabled that would do the job

This will do it. Put it between your amp and speaker. It needs the speaker load though.

That will do the job just as well as any new box, and they have a bypass function if you don't like the attenuated sound. So I'd use that unless there was something specific that yours is lacking?

I've got about 5 or 6 of these boxes, and the unsimulated Line Out (for adding a speaker simulation by EQ or IR in the DAW) is the easiest and most reliable bit of the whole thing. In effect, it's just a pot and a resistor.

I use a Palmer PDI-09 for this. Works well for me.

The attenuator started making some additional noises intermittently last month so it’s out of the loop at the moment. I was just thinking a smaller simpler box would be handier.

That's odd. What type is it?

Those with a rheostat (e.g. THD Hotplate) can get some crud on the wiper, but they should be reliable.

It’s a Harley Benton one, it’s been great but started making so odd noises, I’ve not had a chance to open it up yet, been busy but I’ll get in there tomorrow

Seems to be a couple of resistors and a huge L-pad. That said, there's some other circuit on the line out, so it may have a low-cost low-effort speaker simulator, too?
