Despite my hate for trems I've gone and bought myself a Jag, mostly to channel alt rock etc but mainly as both a change from my tele's and to have something to keep in work/mod a bit.
will see how annoying the bridge gets, if i hate it i'll get a hardtail plate (or make one)

I had one of those, put a set of 11s on it and behaved perfectly. Very nice addition

I was wondering about strings, my teles have 9-42s, I might go 12 or 13 and down tune

Nice. Been looking at these recently. I have a CV Mustang and it's ace. I replaced the bridge height screws and had the frets levelled by a pro. I've got a bag of those little screws if you want a pair. A bit of teflon tape around them keeps them nice and secure. My factory screws stripped in moments, not good lol

I'm thinking of fitting a tunomatic type bridge, similar to the Cobain Jag they do, probably a roller bridge and then a shim to angle the neck a smidge, i'll keep the pickups in though as I have enough humbucker guitars.
ta for the screw offer though

Minimum 11s for standard tuning. It may prove necessary to shim the neck to get sufficient break angle over the bridge.

The tailpiece section of the vibrato system is not especially good.

The stock bridge needs to waggle slightly to assist with the feel of the system. (Rubber tubing down the "thimbles", around the bridge height screws helps.)

Fitting a Tune-o-Matic bridge will require plugging and redrilling. Strings can snag in the saddle slots. The string to string spacing may not align well with the pickup polepieces.

Once the vibrato is correctly set up, it can be enormous fun.

Check out the articles and YouTube videos of Mike "Puisheen" Adams for sensible set-up hints.
    Be seeing you.

    HNGD!

I’m a Squier fan & love the sunburst & tortoiseshell combo. The witch-hat knobs finish it off nicely.

I'm really enjoying it but a part of me would have bought a Kurt Cobain Jag if I could have afforded it so i'm contemplating a conversion, i'm fitting a roller tunomatic this weekend anyway, so I'd need a humbucker pickguard and i'd have to rout the body out. I'm currently arguing with myself so weigh in if you have an opinion ( the tunomatic is going in regardless)

I've got a DiMarzio Tone Zone S in my CV Mustang. It's great, nothing like a full sized TZ imo. Really punky and punchy. You can get flangeless ones. If you don't want to go the routing option

I'm torn, I dont mind routing it out, but then If a strat sized singlecoil will drop in (albeit with a little gap around) then I could throw some twin rails in there

The roller tunomatic is on pause, i've fitted some thimbles to stiffen the bridge rocking (it still goes but its a bit more stable now) and replaced the rather agricultural trem unit with a Hosco one( its got the lock on it) couldnt justify an AVRI nevermind any of the other more boutique options. Seems pretty good to be fair, bar is a bit wobbly but im working on that. Fitted 11-52 strings as well and i've tilted the neck a smidge for a bit more break angle, so far so good.

I just remembered that my solution to restricting the rocking action of Fender "offset" guitar vibratos involved two M6 x 9.53mm nylon shoulder washers.

These are available on eBay in packs of ten. I still have four stashed away somewhere.

The pickup cavity is too narrow to accommodate Stratocaster pickups whose output conductors are attached along one edge of the baseplate.

From the Seymour Duncan single coil range, you should be okay with an SSL-3 Hot, SSL-4 Quarter Pound, SSL-5 Custom or their coil tapped equivalent versions.

The Duncan Strat-sized hum-cancelling models will fit but you may have to force the output cables through a 90° turn.*

DiMarzio Track series pickups vary. Older examples have a flanged baseplate that will not fit the cavity. Recent Solderless™ examples do not.

I managed to persuade DiMarzio Brian May model pickups into Jaguar pickup covers. It was a terrible faff but sounded interesting with series/parallel switching.

    Lace Sensors will fit.

The Creamery (and others) build specialist pickups to fit the Jaguar but alter its sound - sometimes drastically.

    * Hot Rails is the classic HarrySeven choice.
    Be seeing you.
