Nottingham City Guitars Custom Models

Afternoon all,

Anyone had any experience with the custom models that Nottingham City Guitars produce? How they play, finish etc. I plan on popping in to Nottingham to see for myself but thought I would try get some input first.

I’ve not seen the shop open for months. It’s always come across like a lottery winners business. I once asked them to do a fret dress for me & they said it’d be two months wait. So I got on the train & went to Tim Marten. Who took 4 days

That's maybe a good take on it. I sometimes see the models they post online and wonder who the market is for them - there's some original design decisions, but they always look quite unappealing to me

I quite like the style and I'm looking for a lightweight P90 screamer for live use. I like quirky guitars though so don't mind the weird backplate thing. Need to find out how they play so I guess the only way is to pop along and see.

Exactly - apparently it helps with tone or sustain or something, but I can't imagine any benefits outweigh the look and extra weight

Have to say, I'd want to see a much better relic job for £1750.

Their 'Moneymaker' looks technically interesting. The body is machined aluminium with wooden shells over the top

If you scroll through the photos on this one you see the body in pieces (not shown on the black and yellow ones)

Someone there has some metalwork skills even if the relic-ing looks ropey.
Not suggesting I'd buy one but its interesting...

Oooof. Only its mother could love it. And at £2400, you'd have to really want one because its value will drop like a lead brick the minute you walk out of the shop. I really don't see the appeal.

I quite like this one which at £1250 for a handmade guitar is pretty good value. Would prefer the non-reliced paint job though. I like the idea of reclaimed wood being used and it's still a light guitar even with the metal brace.

That looks much better, especially at that price point - but the 'relic' work is really awful.

That looks much better, especially at that price point - but the 'relic' work is really awful.

They are clearly going for a non-authentic distressed finish rather than a relic. It's a different style, but some will like it
