G System tuner weirdness

So I picked up a G System for not a lot of money. I quite like it but there’s one issue - the tuner. I’ve discovered that for some insane reason the tuner sits in the signal chain after the pre-loop effects and after the loops themselves. With my amp in 4CM, the tuner just doesn’t work. It’s like my amp’s preamp doesn’t produce a strong enough signal to make the tuner work. It’s an Orange TH30 btw. Other people don’t seem to have an issue, with other amps. I wonder if there’s something I’m missing.
