Rogue Asian Hornet stalking us

What's Hot
We have had a few encounters with a large hornet, I reckon it's one of those Asian Hornets as it's about 4 times the size of a wasp and is a dark orange and black colour. It hangs around outside our back door where we have a 2 seat bench and table. 3 times we've seen it now and it flew at my wife's head this morning.

I feel like we are in a movie..."We're going to need a bigger fly swat"

    They're probably a protected species.

Whatever you do don't aggravate it, best to just leave your back door open and let it take what it wants. You may need to move yourself and your family into the shed for a while until it's emptied your fridge and watched whatever on TV.

It will probably come back though, might be best to just sell up and move house.

    Really? FFS :-)

I'd rather go scorched earth and leave it nothing

Quite the opposite.....kill list species.......if they take a hold here we will lose 50% of our honey bee population within 5 years.
40% of the Asian hornet diet is honey bees .
Even our indigenous population hornets attack bee hives

One of the most revolting wildlife documenties I watched was about hornets decimating a bee hive and returning to their own hive to feed their monstrous larvae.

Catch it and take a pic.

I made that sound like I would have the calm/nerve to carry out such a task, where my actual approach to the situation would be to run around flapping my arms and squealing like a girl.

I just suggested to my wife that we may have a nest in the loft...suggested we go in with a flame thrower like Dallas from Alien

Nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Had a couple appear in the house at night - windows open and they are attracted to the light. Took a good old dose of Raid to knock them down. The 2nd one required a good thumping to finish it off.

Could it be a wood wasp?

Avoid al fresco dining. They can be a right nuisance.

No, no long proboscis at the rear, haven't seen it landed yet but I reckon it's a Hornet and it does look like one of the Asian Hornets while in the air, might try a plate with some honey and water on the table see if we can get it to land and even trap it

My 2 were definitely Asian Hornet. I gave the "un-mangled" suspect a close inspection once I was certain that it was dead.

I just suggested to my wife that we may have a nest in the loft...suggested we go in with a flame thrower like Dallas from Alien
If the nest is a possibility, then call your local council & arrange for a visit from "The Exterminator'.

Torching the house is the only solution.

I've heard bees dance around them to make them overheat, then they die.

Guns etc. may look scary, but this may be more effective...

I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin

But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to

If it’s really that big then it’s probably the far less angry European honest.

    Asian ones are quite smaller

That didn't go well for Dallas.

Unless it's the giant asian hornet. They're the biggest and most dangerous coz of the amount of venom they can inject.
