Locking tuners - what is the point?

  • Slightly quicker string change for me, but I'm quite happy with non locking as well.

I like the tuners on my Ibanez AZ Prestige guitars, which are self locking. Just thread the string through, and turn the tuner until it locks the string.

Loosening the string tension with the tuners usually causes them to let go. If not, continuing to turn the tuner beyond the zero slack position, causes the string to pull itself free.
    It's not a competition.

  • I’m totally crack handed and hate changing strings , absolutely love my locking tuners or my Floyd’s where you can put the ball end in the machine head

I just prefer them. I can do the licking round the posts method, but I prefer the speed & simplicity of locking tuners.
You must have some really sticky saliva  :)
It’s the rust, it increases friction between the string and the post :)
Too much gain... is just about enough \m/

I'm probably only member of this forum mentioned by name in Whiskey in the Jar
