  • Long overdue! Great to see, glad they made an affordable line. Kim is probably my favourite guitarist, his sound is influenced a lot by this guitar. I’ve always fancied an S100. I can’t justify another guitar right now….perhaps if I sold one.

    Nice

I always preferred Cornell's playing but it's nuts that this hasn't happened already.

$7k for the fancy, very limited USA-made one and a very reasonable $900 for the asian-made version

30 years overdue, and another copy of an 80-year old design. MEH!

Going on what Kim says, it sounds like a big part of the sound of his guitar is that the pickups are unpotted or microphonic.

From what I can see in the video it looks as though this has the old Guild bridge design, rather than the basic tune-o-matic found on the current models. Would be cool to see them reintroduce that, it's a much better design.

I agree this is well overdue. I've played a couple of vintage Guild solid bodies and they were lovely

  • A very under-rated player...'Birth Ritual' is an amazing song, and 'Badmotorfinger' & 'Superunknown' are both fantastic albums.

  • On another note, when did "x" stop meaning multiplied? You see it everywhere now. Surely a "+" would make more sense.

Soundgarden was one of my best live experiences, and I've always loved Kim & Chris' combo of tuning, interesting chords, riffs, and rhythms. Nice to see Kim celebrated this way.

  • As cool as it looks, is the Asian model any different from the current/previous production model?
A friend has a vintage one and a reissue, and the reissues are just fine. Can't get behind that cheap metric tunomatic bridge though, so unsightly.

It is commonly used in taxonomic circles to indicate hybridisation. For example, with Orchids you might see a reference like Orchis simia x Orchis purpurea.

So it's means mixture as opposed to just something and something else.

The Kim Thayil Asian model has the phase switch that the previous Asian model didn’t. They have upped the price, I think have they discontinued the previous Asian model… the price of that had been steady for a long time so an increase in line with other brand was due you could say. Anyway, I’m sure there will be enough willing to pay extra for the Kim/SG extras. Looks awesome in black with the gold hardware

Looks and sounds pretty cool. Love Soundgarden and SG style guitars so maybe I'll have to wait til the cheaper model is on sale!

American English often uses x as an abbreviation for “by”

  • You can still find the regular S100 Polara for around the same price even though it has been discontinued.

Go on, get! (Said in a heavy southern drawl accent)

But saying that, I'm a massive Grunge fan, it's my go to favourite genre, I've seen soundgarden live and loved King animal and cant wait for their new album and I love 3rd secret, of all the artists I wish Kim thayil and Mike mcready would release solo albums. I'll be getting this guitar

I might grab one of these actually.  Always thought they were very cool guitars.

What's the actual quality like of the Asian made Guilds ? I've never seen one in the flesh.

Nothing wrong with the Korean S100 Polara.

Kind of a shame they used the 2-1 pickup screw configuration, making it very difficult to retrofit other pickups should those be a bit underwhelming.

Ignore that, I'm talking bollocks, guess you can just swap the pickup rings.

  • I can’t see that these are stocked in the Uk, only at Thomann and Bax (are they UK based or not?).

    Not that I’m ordering one…….yet!
