I just saw a 1989 Ebony LP Custom being sold by GAK for £4,999 - man that's seriously overpriced!  By comparison there's a 2008 'buy it now' Ebony LPC on Ebay for £3,000 & another for £3,999, etc, etc .............
I would hazard a wild guess that the "80s" decade in the date has a strong enough effect on the price that a 1989 guitar of the same type and condition will be higher priced than a 1990 one, and by a margin greater than the difference between a 1990 and 1991 guitar.

1989 models have the Bill Lawrence designed "Circuit Board" Pickups, highly desirable to some.

  • I honestly can't even see how it would even be worth vintage prices.  It's been

    - Routed for pickups it didn't originally come with
    - Had the electronics replaced
    - Has been refinished
    - Has had switch hole repairs
    - Had had a complete refret

Granted the last one isn't a big deal, but still.  It's got vintage wood and 'Gibson' on the headstock, and that's about it? It's not as if it's been stuck in the case for most of it's life and is a good example of that era.

    Or is that just me?

Not the same age, but similar era and a similar 'conversion/changes'- 1977 LP Deluxe - failed to hit its reserve today at an auction which was around £1500

148 - 1977 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe electric guitar made in USA Body gold top refinish upon mahogany back

That's a nicer guitar imo but has the "less desirable" features of a maple neck and Nashville bridge.
