Someone made a comment over on the Gear Page the other week along the lines of "when there is no musical end goal, GAS moves in...".

I think there's a fair bit of truth to that...

I was going to say that June Brown has aged pretty well.

I can't place that one. It reminds me of Battle Beyond The Stars (what a film!) but isn't.

Just think of it as of heroin addiction, but with enough money and access to quality smack. William Burroughs managed to reach 80 something that way.

I don't understand the desire to buy many guitars. I don't have the money or space for it! It's none of my business what anyone else does.
But let's say you won a large dollop on the lottery, bought a new house with lots of space and had more money than you knew what to do with.

Would you then splash out on lots of nice new guitars?
I’m mostly into amps I think, but I would buy a really nice vintage Strat or Tele!  And maybe a Goldtop LP. :)

Have we finally found Nadine and BoJo's rumoured lovechild? I reckon we need to set KDH onto this one.

You can be a collector or a player or both. Most of us are a bit of both I suspect. Those with a preference for collecting don't need so many lessons.

    As has been said.

    Simples!

    :-)

    Play Guitar. Drink beer.
I’m pretty sure Bonamassa is a collector and knows his stuff. So you can definitely be both.
Yup, and Frisell has over 60 guitars himself!

    But they're different activities.

At what point do you think you become a collector rather than just a player? I have 10 guitars atm and am in the process of building a partscaster, but I don't consider myself a collector.

On the other hand my girlfriend would definitely say I am, despite the fact I have less guitars than she has pairs of shoes....

I'd say a fair definition is when you  have more guitars than you need for how you play.  For most people that's three, play, spare, repair, and that's if you are gigging.

There is nothing wrong with having a collection you love though mate.
