it hums even when the unit is powered off, but if I take the plug out of the unit’s send socket, the hum stops.
Edit: the boss does need to be set to have a send/return block active, depending on how the HXFX virtual routing works you might need to do something similar.

Tried it again this morning - double checking cables and connections, and it doesn't seem quite so bad.... Might be the positioning of the amp or unit near the tele, or something?
I ended up with 2 of these on the board for my helix whihc sorted it right out
