Can the Freqout be modelled?

What's Hot
I’m really tempted to get one of these but was wondered first if they are potentially easy to model or would they be super high on DSP? Living in hope one ends up in a Helix update

  • The Freqout is a digital effect so its inherently "modelled" as is.

I reckon it will be on the higher side of DSP (in effects terms) but it won't be much worse than some of the things that Helix etc do already. The biggest obstacle will be whether Line6 think it is worth the effort to do!

Personally I'd get one and if it ends up in Helix then sell it.

Cool, thanks for that! I think I might just get one as it’s probably handy to have separate to everything else.

It can be done on the AxeFX. Fractal provides a pitch follower which can be used to feed effects like an EQ or a software synth. I use a synth sine wave pitched an octave above the tracked note, swelling in with a one second rise time, and a longer decay time. It’s triggered by a momentary switch on my pedal board. What I’ve played with is a second synth note pitched 17 semitones up (the fifth) with a longer rise time.

I've seen the Axe FX one - looks great. As a Helix user I need to explore more of the pitch effects and the Tesselator, which seems to be capable of holding a note. I wonder if the two in combination, perhaps with an extra reverb or something, could do a job. Maybe that'll be tonight's task.

I've created that in the past and it is OK but the Freqout feels better under the fingers and is more responsive.
I've gone back to using the Freqout pedal.

I should have another go with the FM9, as my live rig is much more compact now.

Out of curiosity why a sine wave, rather than triangle?

The sine wave seems to peep through the guitar signal, hinting at edge of feedback, whereas the triangle is a definite “I’M HERE, LOOK AT ME” type of feedback.
