Power supply cables? Any differences?

So, impending pedal board revamp has got me thinking about pedal power supply cables. Is there a brand that could be considered ‘good’? There’s a wealth of info out there about patch cables but it seems that the PSU cables are somewhat overlooked. Maybe they’re not discussed because there isn’t anything important about them? What say you?

They all look the same to me apart from differing lengths.

Nothing important about them other than reliability. They carry DC (or rarely AC, but only 50Hz) so capacitance isn't an issue, that's not in the signal path at currents which are usually far below the rating of the cable, so the only thing that matters electrically is that they don't break.

It’s the solidity/reliability I was thinking of mainly. Is there any point in buying something that’s branded eg ‘Voodoo Labs’? Is there anything to recommend?

I find the cables that are supplied with power supplies are too long leading to a rats nest of wire that is uncontrollable. I am thinking of making my own up from a kit or trimming them down from existing cables..

I made my own when I had a pedal board. A load of barrel ends and some cheap cable. Coac looks better, side-by-side is easier to work with.

Agree! Would be very interested to know how you get on with this as I am considering the same thing.

I just bundle the unneeded lengths up neatly, doing two or three cables together. and cable tie 'em to those square adhesive mounts you can buy.
