Rust-Oleum Crystal Clear Gloss time to fully dry?

Hello,

has any one used Rust-Oleum Crystal Clear Gloss? And if you have how long does it take to full cure?

I sprayed a body with it a couple of weeks back, assemble it (probably a bit to quickly as I have Zero patience) and then hung it on a wall hanger to dry. I put it on a stand today for a few hours and it left a dull patch where it had been in contact with the rubber.

Does it just need more time?
Have I used a product that never cures and it's time to refinish it?
I sprayed it over montana gold spray paint - would this cause it not to cure?
So many questions

any thoughts opinions most welcome!

Whenever I've used their clear coat, it's taken a week before it's cured enough to use.

@digitalscream cheers. I'll just hang it up then and give it some more time. It's been over a week so i might of messed it up

feels pretty dry but didn't like sitting on a rubber stand.

It is possible that you didn't give the gold lacquer enough time to cure before spraying the clear lacquer, and solvent could still be leaching from the gold lacquer causing it to leave the clear coat soft and uncured.

@markblack was the Montana gold paint you used lacquer or rustoleum?

@GoldenEraGuitars Montana Gold was the colour. I then used the rustoleum as the clear coat.

@BillDL i didn't use Montana gold lacquer, just colour. Maybe i didn't give the paint enough time to dry? A gave it a couple of days?

Okay, I’ve just googled Montana Gold.

You have compatibility issues - your colour is solvent based, the clear coat you used is enamel.

Unfortunately you’ll need to start again as your finish will likely always be “soft”.

It depends if you want a durable finish or one that will eventually age/become distressed?

Just for reference here, I painted an MDF unit in my workshop with emulsion, then sprayed rustoleum satin clear on it. Touch dry after a few mins and hard the next day.

So I need to find a solvent based clear coat if I use Montata again. Got it. You live and learn.

Aaaah. Montana Gold isn't the actual colour, it's the brand name and they sell Acrylic Lacquer of different colours in spray cans.
