Just back from seeing The Chicks and Maren Morris. I was rather taken by the bass used in Maren’s song The Bones:

I’ll handle this Violet, you take your three hour break.

Ewwww ...... I hate it. Just horrible, a waste of a Status.

The one last night looked a little more DIY although that would mean it could be returned to it's status (small S) as a bass. The status of that Status is rather stuck.

It's a great idea - especially for a 3 piece that likes on stage movement.

He's got a few other very custom Status' as well

Is it? I'm struggling to see a use case that warrants it while also playing music I would enjoy...

To me, that looks and is daft. Why not get a session player to play whatever ‘other’ parts are needed and play the bass as normal.

    Agreed.

The one in the MM video looks like a Fender P with a wireless MIDI controller keyboard attached to the body where it is not obstructing the strings or controls.

The custom-built Status instruments look as if they require an outboard power feed to run everything reliably. (See XLR jack plug on edge of doubleneck, near touch screen.)
    Be seeing you.

I’m pretty sure that’s a Neutrik/Re-An DIN plug, so probably a MIDI cable.

That could be supplying power too, of course.

Play some music you don't like then! Then you'll see the benefit!

Presumably because hiring a session player for 1 or 2 songs each night is a lot more hassle and expensive.
Probably also an image thing - Muse are known for massive tech based stage shows.

It might look daft but it clearly isn't daft to them, because it works.

Just to clarify I saw her in Birmingham with the same band, I wasn't in the audience of Austin City Limits.

And they aren't bashing out covers at the Dog & Duck. It seems odd to begriudge them using the tools they want to use.

I'd quite like to see them do a covers set at the local.

That could be great fun! For a 3 piece they make a remarkable amount of noise.
