Last night’s gig…Poor bride and groom!

We’re nearly finished setting up. It’s about 7pm, first set at 7:30pm, all good.

Bride and groom are, I’d say, 50’s? Lovely couple. Groom’s had a few grownup drinks, but seems fairly together….…..until he goes A over T on the step into the marquee.

Guests help him to a chair, get his shoe snd sock off to survey the severity of the injury to the leg he just walloped. Looks quite swollen.

First Dance might not be going ahead as planned.

Fair enough, we’ll do our first set, see how it goes?  Except, now the decision is taken that he needs to go to A&E. NOW.

This is, say, 7:20pm?

Bride decides, oddly, to do First Dance anyway…with her daughter from her first marriage. Sobbing her heart out all through it…

Finish our first, and somewhat subdued, set…The news comes through that he has broken his ankle!

But! “He’s coming back!”

Sadly, despite us postponing our second set for quite a while, the news comes that he needs an operation and will most definitely NOT be back.

Halfway through our second set, very apologetic bride thanks us and says she’s off to the hospital, but says she’ll have another party next year and get us to come back!

As I remarked on the mic, a toast to absent friends is common at weddings…but this is the first one I’ve heard that was in honour of the groom!!

Edited thread title to show some sympathy for the groom too!

I'm not unsympathetic to the bride's plight, but I think "poor groom" might be more apt!

True, true…but I think his alcohol intake contributed …. I know the bride blamed him!

Well that’s all rather a shame. Best of luck to them though

Extreme way of getting out of paying the band, screams scam. ;)

     :)

Fortunately, the groom paid us in cash just after we had started setting up.

Anything can happen at a wedding! Poor bloke but you got another gig out of it.

My current favourite oops is the wedding dj using Spotify for the first dance and the WiFi goes down !

He'll never hear the end of it. Best thing to salvage the situation is to get divorced now :)

I use Spotify, but I download the important tracks in advance.

Band I was in years ago once played a mates wedding and the bride's son from previous relationship managed to break his let between the registry office and the reception.
    Don't touch that dial.

  • Rather fortuitously for the band, they’re going to have another go at having the party, same venue next year…same band, same fee.

  • I do not drink at weddings and funerals [but make up for it on other occasions] - it's a risky business that rarely ends well ...
