UNPLANNED DOWNTIME: 12th Oct 23:45
This week I are mostly...
What's Hot
... not going to work, which is nice
... taking Nozzle to see her heart specialist for a check-up (and thorough fuzzling)
... building Lady BMcH a new gaming PC
The last on the list is already going super-well. She has a budget of a grand, so I figured I could man-maths a new 4070ti and she'd have my 3070ti and somehow we both save money. Except my power supply doesn't have two separate PCIe lines, so now I need to swap the PSUs as well. And it turns out you can buy DDR5 in either AMD or Intel flavour, so if course I bought the wrong sort. As I say, going pretty well to be fair. Old RSM being collected and new RAM arriving today.
Also I have some Lego coming in case I run out of things to do.

My current 3950X with 32 GB ram will last me for some time, but I would like to upgrade my 2060 when I get a chance. My monitors max out at 60fps so it's really about running things on max details while still getting 60fps.
However in the hot weather I have noticed an annoying clicky noise when all the fans / pumps are running fast while gaming and I cannot find where it is coming from. I need to figure that out before I decide if I need to replace any other parts first. I'm hoping it's just the case exhaust fan on the back rather than the AIO.

just because you do, doesn't mean you should.
I have done sweet fuck all in that time. Over the next few days I am gonna make a concerted effort to do even less than that.
I'm not locked in here with you, you are locked in here with me.

Wifey's PC, to fit in her IKEA shelves:
It does help having a 3D printer to make the brackets and stuff, I'll admit.
The important thing to remember us that as soon as you do your first swear you stop for a bit.
I did not do any swears despite discovering the I needed to move the CPU radiator from the front of the case to the top, which meant taking the fans off and putting them back on twice.
My PC boots and shows pictures on a monitor, so do far so good. Lady BMcH's memory and case arrive today, the rest is here.
Also I'm meant to be swapping all the fixings on our picnic table to stainless steel, which means I get to play with my new impact driver.
And we might go to the pub for lunch one day. Pretending to be retired is a lot of work.
No joke! You have no idea how the time disappears once you are retired and "not busy"!
Mind you, my habitual three-hour breakfasts followed closely by a spot of morning tea are possibly not helping.

It's "need to know" basis, so they don't advertise it, but if you turn up at their office car park you can generally find somewhere, usually just in front of the exit barrier, where you're supposed to leave all the rubbish.
HTH.
Tomorrow will be composts and manures.
Joy.
TBH its not the chaps on strike, I kind of understand it - its the fucking shit shambles that is South Glos CC - absolutely diabolical at communication

People often call Sporky "inspirational". And in that spirit ...
This morning, in my coffee break (not that I drink coffee), I removed three wheelbarrow's worth of brambles and stinging nettles from one of the hedgerows. More of a weeding break.
I might do the same again later in my afternoon tea break (because I don't drink tea either).
I finished Tchia (in, of course, the spirit of testing the new PC). I've done most of today's puzzles. It's going pretty well.
The drive caddies are all sitting on feet that I made out of two layers of Scotchbrite pads, which gets rid of the vibration noise (as well as the feet for the whole thing, which I cut from an acoustic isolation pad for hi-fi speakers). You can hear the drives themselves - it'd be hard not to, with 20-odd drives in there - but the sound is minimal, the birds outside are louder.
I might have over-achieved today. There's nearly a whole week left.
Having a week off to just do hobbies and have afternoon tea and so on is brilliant.
All the awesome of not being at work, without the stress and hassle and disruption of going away and not having your cuddly dinosaur* whenever you need him.
*other fine animals exist
I wonder if we'll get a rebate on our council tax.............................. " rolly eyes "

Oh, and I'm making a mutton Madras and trying to decide what to do with a lambs neck and a couple of oxtails
We had cake. On the way home we stopped at the woods we went to before we moved house. Now I am waiting for sausage rolls to warm up in the oven.
Later this week I will be replacing the glass in the wing mirror of the car, which fell off when Lady BMcH shut the door. Lady BMcH is not in trouble.
