Laydeez and Djentlemen...

Various icebergs just over the horizon, and it's time to man up and move on 2 of the finest (perhaps, 'the' 2 finest) guitars I've ever owned.

First up....

2007 Limited Edition (Only 300 made) Gibson Custom Shop John Lennon Les Paul Junior.

Based on a minutely realised reproduction of an hot rodded Jr. Lennon played in the 70s. Absolute beast of a thing, with a P90 at the bridge and this wonderful Charlie Christian at the neck. It’s got some heft to it (how Lennon managed concerts with it hanging round his neck is a wonder: probably all that smack, never felt a thing), and a fabulously chunky 50’s neck.

I scored this from Mike of this parish a couple of months ago, and it's sublime.

Nicking his description: "This is the full package; with Custom Shop guitar case and a certificate of authenticity in a special army green cloth folder with John’s autograph embroidered on the cover and hand signed by Yoko Ono. Interview with DeMarino by Andy Babiuk, author of “The Beatles Gear,” a signed Lennon print by famed artist Allison Lefcort, and Lennon’s famous “New York City” Sleeveless T-shirt.

It is 'as new', as it was manufactured and released by the Gibson Custom Shop in 2007."

Stunning guitar,  and very much a sound investment as well.

It ain't cheap.  Sorry.  £7,500.  Reduced to £7,000.

Take a look at the prices on Reverb before flaming me.

I will not post this guitar, but will drive to meet pretty much anywhere.

Part trades considered, for reasonably vintage Fender, Gibson stuff: I'm a meat and potatoes man at heart...

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 16, 2007) - Gibson has announced the new Custom Shop John Lennon Inspired By Les Paul guitar. The guitar features a Charlie Christian pickup in the neck position, just like Lennon’s modified 1950s Gibson single-cutaway Junior. Only 300 of these special limited-edition guitars will be produced.

Lennon owned many equally well known guitars during his lifetime, including a Gibson J-160E and Epiphone Casino. The guitars Lennon chose to play often seemed to reflect his ideas, beliefs, and lifestyle. The image of Lennon playing his modded ‘50s Junior during his famous live performance at New York’s Madison Square Garden on August 30, 1972 is an unforgettable one – one that guitar luthier Ron DeMarino helped to shape through the assistance he provided to Lennon in modifying the guitar in the early 1970s.

The Gibson Custom Shop has worked with Yoko Ono in the recreation of this famous modified Les Paul Junior guitar, with Yoko Approving a complete hands-on review of the original for the design team to use as a reference point. The Inspired By Les Paul guitar is aged to look just like Lennon’s original once it was sanded down to the solid mahogany body and includes the famous Charlie Christian neck pickup as well as aged chrome hardware. Each of the 300 limited-edition guitars will be accompanied by a Custom Shop guitar case and a certificate of authenticity in a special army green cloth folder with John’s autograph embroidered on the cover. Additionally, the Lennon fans who purchase this guitar will receive an article that includes an interview with DeMarino by Andy Babiuk, author of “The Beatles Gear,” a signed Lennon print by famed artist Allison Lefcort, and Lennon’s famous “New York City” T-shirt – sans sleeves, of course.

“It is an honor to work with Yoko Ono on a guitar inspired by one of the world’s most passionate and prolific musicians of our time, John Lennon,” said Henry Juszkiewicz, Chairman and CEO of Gibson Guitar. “The Gibson Custom Shop has produced a guitar which expresses Lennon’s legend and is inspired by his very own 1950s Les Paul junior guitar. It is a model designed with Lennon’s own spirit, genius and creative works in mind.”

Today, the original guitar is on permanent display at the John Lennon Museum in Japan and will also be unveiled at a special event at the Gibson Japan Showroom in Tokyo , Japan in early August 2007.

Second Up: Feline Lion Slash Derrig ***SOLD***

Holy grail guitar, etc.   Plays like apple butter on the side of a big plate of chips & gravy, sings like an angel and a pair of celestial hands will massage your shoulders on the hour, every hour.  Guaranteed to boost both your sex appeal and your street credibility.

Mahogany body with the most amazing flame in the wood at the back, only to be outdone by this amazing flamed top which seems to change colour depending which way you look at it.  The neck is sublime - perfect balance between thin and chunky.  Mother of Pearl inlays, nice big fat frets making bending a breeze, and an Earvana compensated nut for chords and whatnot.

Currently boasting a set of Seymour Duncan Slash signature pickups.  And check out that neck heel...

You all know how good these are...

    ***SOLD***

Comes in Feline branded Hiscox hard case.

£2,500, handed over or collected.  Again, would really rather not courier this, but happy to discuss options.

Oh!  Based in the People's Republic of Barnet, N London/Herts borders.  But willing to travel...

Been so mad busy I forgot all about this bump.

Feline still on (pretty firm) hold; few intriguing part-trade propositions for the Lennon, but nothing that quite rocks my casbah (with respect to the offers), or leaves me with enough moolah in hand...

Gonna stick it on Reverb shortly, so if anyone wants to try to wangle a Forum firneldy deal, get it while it's moderately lukewarm.

Can't believe you're selling the Derrig (again?!), I still remember the handover like it was yesterday :)

That is one superb guitar, which I thought I'd never replace, but luckily I have now, whoever it's on hold for is in for a treat.

My head said brake, but my heart cried never.

Bump L Stiltskin for this smoking' hot piece of Lennonesque memorabilia.

As above, willing to consider part trades, and if you have one of those mid 2000s lp Special Faded Dc's (or similar) I'd be extra super interested...

Surprised I've only just seen this. That is really special (no pun intended)

Yoko Ono's signature is a nice touch

Alas, I have just spent nearly the equivalent value on roof repairs

Well, according to Maslow's hierarchy of needs a chap's gotta stay warm and dry, before arsing about with musical instruments.

There's quite a lot of info about this one out there.., including this here blog.

I'm open to offers and particularly part trades if it helps anyone bridge the financial chasm.

I am indebted to @bgmartinsbridge for finding and sharing with me this astonishing video of Mr Lennon letting rip on the prototype for this fine instrument, accompanied by Chuck, and Yoko.

    Best played loud.
