Recommended soldering irons

Went to mend a lead before tonight’s gig and wadya know, my cheapo £8.99 soldering iron from screw fix didn’t want to play.

can anyone recommend a general purpose iron or station for less than £50 for an occasional user please

I've had this one for a few years and it's been fine. I've used it for pickup/pot swaps, lead repairs etc. The only thing is it doesn't have a stand, I had one from a previous iron -

Sorry, it does have a stand, it doesn't look very solid though  :)

This is neither state of the art or a pro's tool, but costs bugger all, works fine for me & was good enough to solder to pots too...

I recently bought one of these after my ancient trusty old iron finally expired...

Cheap as chips, does what it needs to do.

I always recommend the Antex XS25 with a replacement #52 chisel tip for guitar work.
the bigger chisel tip acts like a reservoir for heat that lets it solder to the backs of pots and switches and jacks are a breeze to do.

I ended up getting a Sremtch kit from dreaded Amazon because it seemed good value, with good reviews and a temp read out on the handle. Did the job fine

It's usually little over 50 quid but I have a TS100 that is utterly brilliant.

EDIT: ah, too late but glad you're sorted!
