4 days in now with the EOB Strat and I'm finally getting on with the neck . . . I've played it almost non stop since getting it on Friday and its really grown on me. I've changed the strings from 9's to Ernie Ball 10's and I've tweaked it where I can to suit me . . . I'm pretty sure that the Trem Arm it came with wasnt original, but eitherway Ive cropped it down  as I like them pretty much Gilmour size . . . Its " nothing" like my old 62 AVRI Strat but its fast becoming a real joy to play . . . I've not really used the Sustainer either but I'm sure that will change . . . It only came with 2 x Trem Springs so I cant quite get the right Trem Action I would prefer but Matt Ryan, the Local Guitar Tech & Top Bloke has got one loitering in his parts drawer for me :-) . . . I'll pick that up tomorrow andsee if that cures the Trem issue . . . Pickup Positions 1,2 & 3 are excellent 4 is really useable to but the Sustainer Pickup is more Tele than Strat . . .

Once again . . . Do I wish I'd have gone for a US Strat with a Maple Neck ?? or a Roadworn Vintera ??

Same answer . . probably YES, but there's no doubt the EOB Strat is a great guitar and I genuinely believe that given a little more time I'll be 100% OK with the neck . . .

However feel free to get in touch if anyone fancies a TRADE
     :-)    Always interested in options . . . .
Id just like to point out that, despite all the video and DNA evidence, it genuinely wasn't me, your Honour  !

Glad you're getting on with the neck @maw4neu. One of my regrets is selling a featherweight 90s Les Paul Studio with an ebony board because I didn't think I liked fat necks. I got used to fat necks soon afterwards. That guitar was a peach

Anyway once you get stuck into the sustainer I'm sure you'll be happy with your decision. They are great tracking tools for example where you need to add some pads. The neck pickup doesn't sound like a normal strat pickup but it does have its own thing going on

Cheers @roberty ;; . . . it didn't really feel huge, I knew it was bigger but it just felt different . . . so the best way to make it second nature is to play it a lot and I have 100% played it lots since last Friday when I bought it  . . .

I made the mistake of telling one of my friends that I missed owning a Stratocaster and he offered it to me at a very reasonable price so I basically thought "nothing to lose here, so why not give it a go " . . . .

I'm on the fence with the Sustainer Pickup really, I don't feel driven to use it but I totally appreciate that it does open up a whole new avenue for expression,

In truth though, I still miss owning a Stratocaster, in particular my old 62 AVRI so I'm not 100% sure that I'll be keeping it . . . My fear of big necks has vanished though so this has already taught me a lesson . . .

Once again . . . Do I wish I'd have gone for a US Strat ?? or a Roadworn Vintera ?? well most definitely "yes" . . . I think I'm kind of set in my ways, so, as well put together as this is and as good as it looks, its not for me but I do love the Maple Neck . . . so there's no doubt that it will be in the Classified Section sooner rather than later . . .

Well . . . its took just over 2 weeks, its was tough at times, but its finally all clicked in place  . . . I can honestly say that the EOB Strat is fantastic guitar . . . Its is currently my go to guitar and I've spent hours noodling away on it without any issue at all . . . I've even played about with the Sustainer using my DL4 as Looper and its brilliant, all in all, a very very creative tool . . . I wish I was alot younger . . .

Question : Do I wish I'd have gone for a US Strat with a Maple Neck ?? or a Roadworn Vintera ??

Answer : Right now, no way ! !

Nearly 4 weeks in now and I can honestly say I'm truly converted . . I dont have any issue with the neck and I actually find it quite comfy . . . I managed to work out how to set the Sustainer up slightly better, for me anyway, but I still dont really use it that much in truth.

I've also got used to the Pickups too but I do miss the Tone you get from a typical Strat neck pickup . . That said the Bridge Pickup is awesome, so is the Texas Special in the Middle and position 4 is tasty too . . . At one point when I was struggling with the Neck Profile I also decided it wasnt Stratty enough . . . I'll take that back too . . Its easily Stratty enough for me . . .  If it was stolen, I'd definitely get another . . 100%

Seriously . . If this guitar was ever stolen, I'd buy another instantly . . . Its possibly the best Stratocaster I've ever had   . . . What a turn around ! ! ! I cant believe I ever thought of selling it . . 3 months in now and its my number 1 . . I hardly play the Manson Evo or the Telecaster . . . Its got so much going for it, excellent build quality, great tone, great neck . . . I've even started to use the Sustainer a little   . . .  its just a great guitar !

  • Absolutely my favourite Strat. I'm a terrible guitarist but I love noodling with a bit of ambient and the EOB suits that down to the ground. Definitely took a bit of getting used to the neck though.

OMG . . . I'm so fickle, 3 months on from my previous GUSHING post and the EOB Strat has been relegated to third place in the pecking order behind the Manson Evo and my trusty 97 Telecaster . . . . ! ! ! . . . I played the EOB last night for a while and it was a blast, it's still a great guitar, its definitely put together well and I really like the Sustainer but I'm back into the other two guitars I have way more . . . The neck on the EOB is seriously comfy, but the neck on the Manson is super easy to noodle on.
    Its a funny old game . . . ! !
