Thing 2 has taken up the guitar having decided that the Ukulele she taught herself to play by watching YT vids was too “plinky” sounding.

Thing is that most of the guitars I’ve built for myself have massive necks to cater for my shovel hands which means she gravitates towards playing my EBMM Axis which is my proper expensive guitar and a wedding gift from long suffering wife so much as I want to support the learning process it does make me a bit nervous seeing her swing my most prized possession about.

A normal adult would just go and drop one fiddy on a Jet JS300 but my work schedule has gone awful quiet at the minute meaning GAS cash is a bit scarce.
And that allied to the pile of guitar bodies and parts kicking about makes me think if I can just get a decent skinny Strat or Tele neck to bolt on I should be golden.

So with that in mind I’m offering these three up for trade for a nice, skinny, Strat or Tele neck;

1. Maple Board “Beak” Strat neck

Came to me with a gold “Made In Japan” sticker on the heel but no detail other than that. That went because the heel was 2-3mm deeper than a normal Strat neck so sat way too far out of the body. That got taken down a bit and at the same time I reshaped the headstock to a Suhr/Kramer “beak” shape

Specs are as follows

Fingerboard Rad; 7 1/4 to 10” Compound Radius which surprised me, I thought it would have a straight through radius

Nut Width; 43mm

Neck Thickness 1st fret;  22.9mm

Neck Thickness 12th fret; 26mm

Heel Width, 55.8mm

Loaded with Gotoh tuners

It’s a really nice chunky “C” profile, probably my favourite of the 3

2. Block & Bound CBS Strat Neck

Bit of an unusual one this one

This came to me from JookyChap a good few years back. The way he told it he was in communication with this guy in the US for ages about getting some block & bound necks made and then after about 18months he sent me two. I have no way of corroborating any part of that unfortunately as I haven’t heard from Mark for years now and even back then his way of describing stuff did always err on the “deliciously bonkers” side of the track

What we can tell you

Maple neck, Rosewood board with block, actually I say “block” it’s more Gibson like trapezoid inlays

22 low, wide-ish frets
9.5” radius
41.9mm wide at the nut
56.3 mm wide at the heel
It’s a chonky boy at 24mm deep at the first fret going up to 24.8 mm at the 12th big round “C” profile so it doesn’t actually feel that big in the hand

Vintage tint nitro finish by our very own @lamf68 ;;;;;;;;;

With my logo on the headstock ( the insufferable arrogance of it !)

Comes with a set of modern type Wilkinson tuners

Bit of an ugly on the headstock unfortunately

Bit torn about trading  it as I don’t have anything else with my logo on it but I suspect it won’t get used anytime soon and getting the young one playing is probably a better use of resources
.
SOLD 3. Scalloped Rev Headstock Strat SOLD

Its a “Blackmore” rather than “Malmsteen” style scallop which is assymetrical with the deepest part closest to the fret rather than central and more scallop on the treble strings decreasing to almost nothing on the low E

Another one that came to me from JookyChap,
in fact I think it may have previously been the neck on the Gimme Shelter One

From the colour of the fret markers I suspect it’s MIC so notionally the “cheapest” of the three but the hours spent on the scallop job maybe add some value

Specs look like

Fingerboard Radius 12” to 16” again a surprise

Nut width 41.5mm

Neck Thickness. 1st fret 20.5mm

Neck Thickness 12th fret 21.9mm

Heel Width 56.3mm

Will come with a set of relic’ed locking tuners

SOLD

Of the three I would say that the first two are probably the higher quality pieces and with the tuners are probably £100 ish the Scalloped one is probably a £40 neck but with a  nice scallop job which is probably fairly unique so, anyone interested in a trade ?

Alternatively would sell if you wanted ?

£90 posted on the first 2, £75 posted on the scalloped one

Would trade for a Boss ME50 or a regular/chunky Strat neck with 10-12" rad board
