Epiphone Noel Gallagher Riviera - has anyone played one?

What's Hot
Hi guys,

Im very interested in the new Epiphone Noel Gallagher Riviera, as the reviews seem quite positive on the build quality, playability and sound.

Keen to hear if anyone has played one?

I haven't played that specific model but I demoed a non-NG Riviera last year and I was very impressed with it

  • Yeah, they are decent enough. typical epi quality, just dont overpay for one. People will list high, but they dont sell over £900, and theres another load due anytime in near future.. Im Noel in a few Oasis tributes so tried one, but wasnt what I wanted.

  • I got one on release day back in August.

Nice enough guitar in it's own right and if you are a Oasis fan (like me) then you would most likely be very happy with it.

For me they are not a patch on the originals, but those are difficult to find and are priced at a premium so this could be a more affordable alternative.

They are not limited (despite the initial run selling out quick), so bide your time and get one for retail price when back in stock. No real value in overpaying in the 2nd hand market unless you are not prepared to wait until they are back in stock.

I’ve got the regular frequensator Rivera and it’s very well made, well worth the £549.

I’d be happy to pay the online new price for the Noel Gallagher model but I wouldn’t pay the extra that some eBay arseholes have been after. They are not a limited edition so there will be plenty around in time.

If you don't mind me asking what put you off it ? bearing in mind you play in a few Oasis tribute bands i thought this would be right up your street.

  • I snagged one on release day from Peach. I’m an Oasis fan boy so biased, but I’ve played enough guitars to know a good one from a bad one and this is a good one.

I'd be interested to try one, I bought a cherry red 97 new in January 1998 as a Noel inspired purchase and still love to play it now although it's had everything changed except the frequensator (which was changed for a Bigsby for a while). Pencil thin neck on mine. Best upgrade was the mojo humbuckers I put in there back in 2015. I hope the current ones are as good, although I owned a 2016 Gary Clarke casino for a few years and wasn't impressed mainly because of the way it felt - didn't seem as good as the Riviera.

I’ve had both - an original Matsomoku and the new signature - and I’m impressed. I initially bought it so I had something when I didn’t want to take the big guns out, but I can see this getting alot of use. Plays great, pickups are well up to the job.

Should be said that I’ve had a couple of the recent mini-hum Rivieras and I’m a fan of those too. Sold the sparkling burgundy version I kept over the royal tan once I received the NG signature.

The same boring neck every epiphone has despite them claiming different shapes. Ive a big red historic 335, so the image thing is covered.

My mate James has an original one, from a run several years ago *edit: c.1998.  Barring the fact it's in Man City blue, rather a tasty bit of kit...

I owned a 80s matsumoko Riviera , the neck had a bit chunk to it , Maxon pick ups were ok , guitar was ok best bit was the neck , sold it and thought i would regret/miss it but never have.A good Korean Sheraton would be as good with a good set of pick ups thrown in.

I have one of these new ones. Lovely guitar, I just never touch it as other things always get my attention. If anyone that missed out on one wants it, they're welcome to it at cost. PM me

I had one of these in the 90s. I remember it being pretty decent.

I gigged my one of these, it has upgraded tuners and pickups and no pickguard, case is scratched and tatty as well. My mum and dad bought it for me back in the day so I don’t think I could ever sell it.

Really nice guitar. You see mint ones on reverb for £1700!
Good deals with: handsomerick, majorscale, gassage, sticker, smudge_lad, anglian, edinfield99, thewiddler, thomfripp, notonlybutalso, JDE, chebellanga

I know one that’s been sat in a shop for £650 for 6 months so that’s comical!

If you could just post which store it is, there are a number of bedroom dealers getting excited. ;)

Finally arrived. Bit weighty (8.4Lb) but can’t find a fault on it, build or finish wise. Spent an hour oiling board, polishing scratchy frets and restringing. There was no tension on Rod  at all so now all set up it plays fantastic. Nice 60s shape neck, big volute. Winner.

Quick update after 4 gigs. What a brilliant guitar. Genuinely up there with my 63ri ES335, obs disregarding finish differences.

The new ones look really great but there’s something about Man City Blue, great colour. I take it neither are nitro finishes, poly?

Just picked up the new Riveria NG, and its amazing quality and sounds brilliant. It's the kind of guitar that makes you want to play, its effortless!

Every bit as good quality as my Gibson SG, zero compromise.

    Guitar for life!
