If you wanted to buy new but inexpensively I would highly recommend the Separator from Vein-Tap (here:https://www.vein-tap.com/product-category/signal-splitters/). Head and shoulders better than the Fender ABY I had previously.....

With those don't you need to lift the ground in the plug of one of the amps so that you don't get the mains hum?

I don't get any mains hum but my understanding is that is an issue when running 2 amps simultaneously (I may be wrong as I am no expert!). I have exeprienced no issues but I use this to switch from one amp to another rather than running two at once.... It is a simple switch so similar but better than the Fender equivalent (which bled between channels). Maybe you need something more sophisticated though....

yes it's running two together that introduces the mains hum.

I've predominantly used two amps together since the 90s (one darker and dirtier the other cleaner and brighter with reverb) and after having used a couple of these types of passive switches, I bought the Radial Twin City which is fantastic. Silent and the signal sounds brilliant with no hum. No affil it's just the best. It's worth the money IF you want to run to amps at once.

My aim is to run 2 amps simultaneously. It looks like the most reliable way of eliminating the risk of ground hum is to fork out for an active box with an isolated output.

Always a fan of second hand, so if anyone's got something they don't use please get in touch.

I've got a brand new Orange Amp Detonator somewhere, I need AB, not ABY so it's never actually made it to my board (it was a gift). It's a proper buffered transformer isolated job with a phase switch. It's quite big too which may matter to you.

I've kept it just in case I change my mind but given the condition it's not going to be cheap.

PM me if interested and I'll have a think about the price.

The Bright Onion is great and very reasonably priced new.

Be aware that the outputs are fairly close to each other so you need small patch cables if you're running pedals after it. I had issues using eminence flat jacks, they were touching each other cause of the proximity of the outputs. This caused ground noise issues between the amps. Took me ages to realise the issue was the jacks touching.

Thanks for the tip - Have a drawer full of patch cables, so would hopefully have something suitable to hook up any pedals.

Will hold out for a bit longer to see if anything comes up on here. If not looks like I'll opt for buying new.
