OK, spreadsheet has worked its magic. It turns out that the EC is 2.3mm wider at the bridge. Now that is strange! EC (the man) usually plays a Strat. I would have thought that a Strat's string spacing would have been tighter than your average acoustic's - after all, Strats have narrow nuts by acoustic standards.  But so far as I can see the most common Strat spacing is 56mm - roughly half-way between the two Martin models mentioned. So why would EC (the man) specify the wider spacing for EC (the guitar)?

Presumably because he likes wider spacing. In fact, a vintage Strat has overly wide spacing for the neck width - many people find the E strings too close to the fingerboard edges. 54 or even 52mm is much less prone to them falling off - which is why Fender reduced it on their modern bridges.

£2800 for a guitar you have never seen, let alone played is flirting with disaster. £2800 for an acoustic guitar you've never played is scary-man stuff.

Go for a drive, catch a train, hitch a ride, whatever it takes. It's an acoustic. Every wooden acoustic guitar ever made is different. Unless £2800 doesn't matter to you, play before you buy.

    This.

@Aornic ; let us know how it goes.

    :)
So I finally got around to it. Unfortunately, I feel that that specific Larrivee was kind of closed in sounding and didn't sustain. I compared it to some Martins, Taylors, Atkins and Collings and they all rang out more. Didn't go for it.

The biggest tone was of the Taylor 717e Builder's Edition. That thing absolutely sang. Unfortunately out of my budget however.
