I have a Furch OM33SR   -   bought it "on a whim"   as the tone was that good,  the quality is really very very good for the price point

just because you don't, doesn't mean you can't
just because you do, doesn't mean you should.

  • I’ve got a Furch Blue cedar model. Lovely tone and good value, but I would never buy an acoustic without trying it first, particularly in this price range.

Back in 2016 I travelled to Manchester from the North East with a friend who wanted to try out a Furch. (The nearest stockist - Forsyths IIRC). He tried a few models out.
All were well built and sounded good. I've personally always liked them since.
He did buy a one but I don't know which model.

Blue OM-CM here. Great depth of tone and excellent quality. I can't imagine how full the D will sound.

  • Dose anyone know any good shops in the Cheshire or Merseyside  area that might sell them. I could order from online but would rather try them in store,

I've really liked the ones I've tried (this was 4-5 years ago, though), but I haven't tried the mahogany-topped ones.

Dowina are a similar idea in terms of value for money (they're made in Slovakia while the Furches are Czech). I think the main guy worked with Furch at the very start for a little while, way back.

  • Furch make great guitars for the money, I bought two without seeing them, not a dread though.

Forsyth's in Manchester are easy to get to on the train (if the trains are running)

  • G23-CRC owner here. Excellent guitars for the money in my experience. I've played a few and all have been consistently good. QC seems top notch.

I’d echo that; my LJ10 is a brilliant little guitar. Nobody seems to have a bad word to say about Furch.

I have had their cheapest Stonebridge branded dreadnought for years until it got squashed in a housemove. Currently I have a OM30 with a spruce top from their old range and it is a really good guitar.

I don't think they are good for the money I think they are just good. And made in Europe as well.

the only problem is most of the shops in the UK don't sell them and the odd shops that do are miles away and only have a few models or the one guitar, so for a guitar made in Europe you would think that the UK would have a lot more Furch  guitars  in the shops and with stock which is not the case,  seems a shame because they look good guitars but i  would  probably have to order online to stand any chance of trying one,

Yeah- there seem to be even fewer shops stocking them now. I remember I was looking at acoustics quite a bit about 4 years ago when my sister wanted a nice acoustic (and which, as you would expect, pretty much turned into me wanting one too!) and even in Northern Ireland and ROI, there were a couple of shops not too far away which stocked them. Both of those shops seem to no longer stock them, at least according to the Furch website. When I looked on the Furch website a few months ago, there seemed to be a lot fewer dealers in Great Britain, too.

Dowina is the same too, several dealers which stocked them no longer seem to.

It's a shame, they're really good guitars (I agree- good full stop, at least based on the ones I've tried, without really any need for the "for the money" qualifier), but I guess most people want the big names. Also as with most brands they probably have a "sound", which you either like or don't...

I can't remember how the colour ranges match to the old numerical ones, but very happy G23CRC owner here, for a long time. And every time I play somewhere new I get positive comments on the guitar sound (which I can assure you isn't down to my playing).

@Soupman Other than general cost/supply-chain issues, I'm not sure Brexit has had a massive impact on availability. Furch always had a relatively limited official dealership in the UK (I think there were maybe three options when I got mine, there are a few more now).

For the OP, at the risk of invoking tFB bête noire thread derailment, your nearest stockist is probably Richard's Guitars in Stratford-upon-Avon. Going there isn't necessarily a descent into the pits of retail hell (mine came from there, and it was certainly a rich experience :) ).

That hardly explains the shop in NI and- especially- the shop in Ireland which no longer seems to be a dealer...

It's easy. The old naming convention had a bunch of esoteric numbers which can only have been decided upon by using a random number generator and as such were impossible to remember. The new naming convention has a bunch of random colours (taken from the rainbow?) which are marginally easier to remember, but still not exactly easy- I think they go from the dark side of the rainbow to the light side in order of price range/quality, but I could well be wrong about that. Oh and to help make it even more arcane, as far as I'm aware they just dumped the indigo model so that doesn't even hold true any more.

Granted- inane naming conventions probably are vintage accurate for the big names...

    Glad that's cleared up :)

On the numerical one you at least knew "bigger number = bigger price" because of either features, wood used, or bells and whistles. With the colours I have no clue.

Yeah that's a fair point about the numbers  I forgot about that. EDIT: They also introduced a whole bunch of "deluxe", "master" etc. additions to each colour range to make it more complicated. And then there's the vintage range which is named separately. The vintage ones do at least seem to go up in simple numbers (1, 2, 3 etc. from cheapest to dearest), though. So that's not too bad.

EDIT: Being serious for a second, I think they do go up in order of colour from the bottom to the top of the rainbow, as I said above. I was trying to be slightly helpful, in addition to trying to farm some LOLs...

It's really quite simple and explained here https://furchguitars.com/en/guitar-name-decoder/

    Actually I haven't a clue either :)

The hierarchy appears to be (from cheapest to most expensive): Violet, Blue, Green, Yellow, Red then Rainbow. So the reverse of a traditional rainbow.

    LOL

If you have to have a name decoder...

But I think you're right about the rainbow. I looked it up on wikipedia but got bored/sidetracked when I didn't actually find a list of the colours in order! (Apparently what Newton meant by "Blue" is more likely to be cyan, and what he meant by "indigo" is more like what we mean by blue!)
