    The AD17 is back in stock still at a good price (£788): https://www.thomann.de/gb/taylor_american_dream_ad17.htm

    Strings, @Jez6345789, strings are your go-to. Try a set of something relaxed and warm. DR Sunbeams,  Adams Composite, Dogal Round Core, Galli LS, or Santa Cruz Parabolic. Any of those will give you a softer, more welcoming feel than the factory Elixirs, and a marked improvement in tone.
    That's interesting. As an acoustic newbie, I've not really got a feel for string variations.

    So far, I'd say the clearest upgrade in tone is that the GTe is - to my ears - far more articulate than the two others I have (both larger but with laminated backs). I'd say there's perhaps a bit too much crispness, but that might be a new guitar and new strings combination?
    Very likely. A few weeks on, how are you finding it now that it has settled in?

    Wow someone got it already! Not surprised to be honest- but it just really backs up my feeling about those really great deals, which is that they usually end up being a great deal for someone else when they get in first!

    The GTe I bought (B-stock, but no signs of use) is great. The slightly longer and wider neck makes it a bit more comfortable for me that my GS Mini.

    Kind of wish I’d been able to get the AD17. I have the mahogany topped AD27, which is very nice too.

    I like the stripped back feel of the GTe and the AD27. There’s something more organic feeling about them than the 714ce, which is amazing sounding, but more kind of serious feeling.

    Yup - I am definitely loving mine. Compared to the other acoustics I've had (limited number), my GTe is very articulate - 'crisp' is the word that keeps popping into my head when playing. I did buy some silk-steel strings to see if I can get it to be a bit more mellow, but have not swapped them over yet.

    By the way, the reason for Thomann/etc blowing out some  AD and GT before Christmas was probably this:

    GTe becomes AD11E-SB - new finishes and woods. Urban ash back/sides gone and now walnut. Etc.

    @goldtop ; Re mellow:

    If it hasn't got ebony bridge pins, try a set. Some say they tame brightness, others "Don't be silly!" but it's worth trying 'em out.

    :)

    Yes still happy with mine. Great playability, nice size and a decent sound.
    Are they worth the full asking price? Probably not but I'm more than happy for £888.

    I was thinking about giving them a try, some one on the forum must have experience of this,

    I replaced the plastic bridge pins on my GS Mini with real Taylor ebony pins… ironically they didn’t fit as well as the plastic ones. I can’t say I noticed a change in sound, I changed them because plastic ones are more likely to break eventually in my experience.
