That will let you get sounds into and out of your ipad and into some decent speakers. If just yourself, something with two XLR/1/4” combo inputs be fine, some have midi which will likely let you use the onboard keyboard sounds in garageband too.
Getting power to the interface or charging the ipad at same time can get tricky depending on model.
His MIDI comment is particularly important if you stay on an iPad - which only has one external port to connect to. An audio interface with a MIDI In will allow you to connect a MIDI keyboard to the audio interface. Then your audio interface will be able to send audio signals from a mic and MIDI signals from the keyboard into the iPad at the same time. That's not an issue if you use a computer with two USB ports and if your keyboard will send MIDI over USB, but the iPad is limited in that regard.
