Hi folks,

Thinking of getting a trio+ so thought I'd ask forumites for any thoughts and see if anyone has one they're thinking of moving on...

  • I’ve got the original trio and it’s a great piece of kit - just takes a little patience to get the best out of it -

I’m interested in one too, there’s one for sale in FX @ £190 but I can’t afford that atm, interested in how you would use it without headphones, I mean, can it just be used with an amp, through its fx loop ?

Get the '+' if you want the sync'ed looper, it also has some additional styles and 5 sequence slots (orig. has 3). There's one in classifieds. You might want to consider the extra foot pedal, it can do various things.

Cheers,  yes it's the + one I'd want.  Will have to recheck classifieds as had a look but didn't see it... covid brain fog possibly!

Different setup options are what I'm trying to explore as well.  Initially I could use through headphones albeit I'm also keen to understand how to set up alongside a Fractal FM3, and at some point would probably want to split the bass and drums out to a powered speaker rather than all going through amp or amp fx loop...

  • @Benm39 I have a Trio+ that I bought (second hand) on a whim and probably used three times. It's no longer on my board and, as I don't have space for it anyway, I'm happy to let it go. You're not that far from me by the look of things, so if you'd like to borrow it initially to see if it meets your needs, you're welcome to do so. PM me.

Cheers that's really thoughtful and kind.  Will PM you!

First diag: conventional. If you send OUT to amp, you get drum/bass/guitar coming out of your amp. If you use the other out it splits drums/bass & guitar so you can runh the rghythm section clean via mixer/monitprs. That's what I do, but I put a reverb pedal on the mixer out.

Second diag: send fx loop out to amp in, so you can use amp drive. Combined signal via fx send goes thru trio to fx return so the drums don't get distorted.

the 3 outputs are in descending order: fx out / combined out / drum/bass out.
the 3 Ins are: fx return / guit in / f/s

The one thing you can't do is split bass/drums. There is a piece of software that can extract the combined drum/bass signal but not seperate them. To record bass/drums as individual DAW tracks, you need to run the loop with the bass vol turned down, then do it again with drum vol down. Trio ++ here we come ....

I use a Y cable to merge both outputs into a single TS feed to my PA to avoid the Trio+ processing the outputs itself. The built in guitar fx sim is crap, so i feed it a processed amp sim signal, and clean up using the guitar volume knob when I want it to listen/analyse the chord progression.

    Karma......

Only had a little play through headphones so far as in process of changing amps.. but from the instruction manual and demo vids I've seen it's a remarkably capable bit of kit such I think is going to be extremely useful

Thanks for posting initial thoughts, I have a couple of Kali Audio LP6 monitors I use with my Quad Cortex when I don’t use the headphones and I’m thinking I could use one for a Trio + and the for the QC albeit mono?
