Quiet acoustic guitar shops in Herts/Beds/etc?

I've got a trip in to NW London soon, and as I'm scouting for a medium-range acoustic I could stop off somewhere North of the city, if there's a shop with a reasonable range of demoable guitars. Budget is £750-1250.

M11/A1/M1. Hatfield, Luton, etc. I think Coda is around here but haven't yet looked at their product lineup.

Ideally it'd be a place which does not have Captain Shred playing constantly in the background. Or one with a soundproof acoustic room.

Suggestions?

Coda have an acoustic only store just around the corner from the main one - loads of stock in there.

Appointment only, nice guy and a cool selection of acoustics only.

  • I've never been in the shop (so can't comment on the likelihood of shredders playing in the background) but Music Street in Huntingdon have a good range of acoustics and is a short journey up the A1 from Coda.

  • Musicstreet have a great range of acoustics of many brands, located in Huntingdon park in sainsburys and you can walk to the shop on the high street or coda have a nice little second store, park on the backstreet off the Stevenage old town high street and the door is right there.

Thanks - I will try the Huntingdon place first. I've replaced the Tres that I rarely played with a Yamaha parlour guitar to use as a sofa player. (That's lower in cost and coming by mail order.)

And then I will replace the Sigma dreadnought with an 00-OM, with a bigger budget and will go for in-person playing - Music Street and Coda being first to visit.

Musicstreet is a good shout. Andy and the guys are great, always happy you let you play and try out their gear.

Another vote for coda. Main stock is upstairs and the staff are happy to give advice and leave you alone.

I played everything in the shop and bought a martin.
