Excitement and dejection at the same time

Friday 26th September 1980 ... two guitaring-buddies'n me bagged school and got the bus to Edinburgh to watch Rory. Full of excitement we were ... we had been buzzing for days.
Whilst we waited at the bus station in Dumfries I nipped into RS McColls to buy a paper and a bottle of ginger (Irn Bru to the uninitiated).
Upon return to the fold, I swigged the bru and read the headlines ... I spat the bru out and I was stunned into silence. WTF? they asked ... so I handed over the paper to them.
No words, we all bowed our heads and looked at the ground ... Bonzo was dead!
I've never forgotten that feeling ... that day ... and ultimately, that gig (it was fantastic BTW).
Just wondering what music-related double-edged experiences others have had that have left an indelible memory.
